The wireless charging add-on case is compatible with the PinePhone and the PinePhone Pro. It uses pogo pins located on the smartphone’s midsection and attaches by replacing the default back cover. It works with without the need for software support from individual operating systems. The wireless charging case supports the Qi Wireless and Wireless Power Consortium protocols.
The case is built very sturdy out of black, thick and polished plastic. The back case is built in a modular way and the electronics are easy to replace. This isn’t only good from a repairability perspective but also makes it easy to mod the existing functionality or hack in a new one.
Warning: Possible safety hazard: If the wireless charging chip fails for some reason, do not plug the phone in to charge via USB-C. Take the back case off first. It is possible that power gets fed into the chip, causing it to overheat, possibly causing damage to the phone and creating a fire-hazard.
